ABSTRACT

Vicki’s first action research study was ‘An investigation into the perceptions and opinions of humanities as taught at Springfield School’. As she explained, this was a professional issue, ‘being the most relevant to my situation at the moment’. She saw her role as Humanities Coordinator as a developing one in which she had much to learn, much to shape. ‘I needed to work on my own knowledge within the subject’, she wrote. To this end she had taken her own professional development in hand. She explained that she ‘read, attended lectures and courses and drew on her own experiences as a general class teacher to put the humanities work together’.
