ABSTRACT

There are six principles on which the teaching of physical education between the ages of 3 and 7 depend:

(i) physical education builds on what the child can already do;

(ii) children should be as active as possible during physical education;

(iii) lessons should be regarded as learning situations with clear, structured outcomes identified;

(iv) there should be a range of activities and sufficient time given to the subject;

(v) in order to achieve a balanced programme there should be sufficient equipment and adequate facilities;

(vi) all children are entitled to the best physical education programme possible.
