ABSTRACT

The movement experiences the child gains before he starts school will depend on many factors. Much of his activity will be self-motivated and he will be ‘on the go’ most of his waking hours. It is hoped that his parents will have played with him, bouncing him up and down on their knees, swinging him round and round, chasing him, and engaging in a range of ‘rough and tumble’ type romps. He will have visited recreation grounds and enjoyed the sensation of sliding and swinging together with a chance to climb up ladders and crawl through tunnels. He will have gone walking and possibly been taken swimming.
