ABSTRACT

Our starting point is the well-known fact that there are gender differences in how young people use and approach computers. In recent years, various studies and action research on gender issues in the use of computers have been published in Germany (see for example, Faulstich-Wieland and Dick, 1989; Heppner, Osterhoff and Schiersmann, 1990). The ‘Girls and Computers’ project is based on these findings with the aim of changing the classroom experience, primarily by changing teacher behaviour, in order to give more emphasis to the competencies and interests of girls.
