ABSTRACT

Joanne Rossi Becker has a doctorate in mathematics education from the University of Maryland and is a professor of mathematics at San José State University. Much of her research has been in the area of gender and mathematics, including classroom-interaction studies and interviews with graduate students in the mathematical sciences. She has been active in professional groups, serving as chair of Women and Mathematics Education, and of a special interest group of the American Educational Research Association on Research on Women and Education, and coordinating the IOWME sessions at ICME-5 in Australia.
