ABSTRACT

As an articled teacher, Beth’s host school is a large infant’s within a socially deprived catchment area. Parental support is variable. However, staffing tends to be fairly stable, with the majority of teachers in their 30s and 40s. Whilst the head is seen to provide strong and progressive leadership, it appears that differences exist between the staff in terms of personal philosophies and ideologies. The school enjoys close links with the college, and frequently has a range of students placed there. Built in the 1960s, the school shares a site with the junior school and classrooms are spacious, and self-contained.
