ABSTRACT

This chapter continues our analysis of how performance appraisal and selection processes can be carried out so as to contribute significantly to the development of future school-leaders. The first section of the chapter reviews research literature about selection processes using, as a framework, the same categories of activities which structured our analysis of appraisal processes: preparation, data collection, reporting and follow-up, evolution of policy, and impact. The second and third sections of the chapter explore, respectively, issues in measuring school-leader performance and guidelines for improving school-leader selection and appraisal.
