ABSTRACT

The importance of the principals’ leadership role in school effectiveness has been well documented in the literature. This chapter approaches the topic from the standpoint of interpersonal behavior, broadening previous analyses of the relationships between principals and their staffs. It describes how the QTI was adapted to become the Questionnaire on Principal Interaction (QPI), and then used in an exploratory study to test the instrument’s utility. Teachers’ perceptions of both actual and desired principal behavior were investigated and related to teachers’ satisfaction with the school environment. The study population included ninety-six elementary teachers randomly selected from the Northern educational district of Israel.
