ABSTRACT

In many nations, a coalition of conservative forces is now resurgent in education. Yet, many discussions of this tendency have remained either overly abstract or have not situated it within the larger ideological conflicts that have occurred over the past decade. In this chapter, I shall provide a suggestive account of how and why this movement has been so successful. I shall take as my point of departure the Right’s transformation of some of the major concepts we use to form and evaluate educational policy and practice.
