ABSTRACT

As already outlined in Chapter 9, the type of relationship a man is currently engaged in (whether or not he has a regular sexual partner) is the strongest predictor of the type and frequency of sexual acts he is likely to engage in. We believe that this deceptively simple finding is a powerful means to understanding patterns of sexual behaviour, particularly anal intercourse and condom use. In this chapter we look at the kinds of organisation gay men employ for their sexual lives, and the implications for the kinds of sex they have.
