ABSTRACT

The standards for the award of Qualified Teacher Status in England (TTA, 2002b) set out what you must know, understand and be able to do to be awarded QTS. They apply to all trainee teachers, whatever route or course they’re on. The standards are organised in three interrelated sections:

1. Professional Values and Practice. 2. Knowledge and Understanding. 3. Teaching-this section is broken down into three parts, which

are underpinned by the values and knowledge covered in the first two sections:

– Planning; – Monitoring and Assessment; – Teaching and Class Management.
