ABSTRACT

Distance teaching institutions and programmes, training institutions in industries, and government and non-government sectors employ a wide range of media for distance education and training. Broadly, there are five categories of media: human interface, text, audio, television and computing (Bates, 1995). These media can be classified into print and non-print categories. This chapter considers the non-print media like audio, video, radio, television, interactive television, interactive radio, and audio-and videoconferencing, and excludes Internet-based and networked learning which are discussed in Chapter 14. The delivery of these media through telelearning centres is the focus of Chapter 15.
