ABSTRACT

Storytelling, when combined with reflective awareness, provides opportunities for students to gain new insights into their practice experiences. When they share stories in formalised ways they are able to decide which aspects they will reveal. Storytellers' conscious and unconscious choices provide shape to their stories. While key players are frequently introduced, often little attention is given to their background or perspectives. Thus their impact, and the insights they afford, are rarely appreciated in initial tellings. Developing awareness of other ways in which stories can be comprehended further enhances reflective understanding.
