ABSTRACT

For many students, assessment is the course, and success in assessment is their ultimate goal. For educators it represents the means by which they can determine how much of the course students have really learnt, and measure the progress of students. For universities, accrediting courses, maintaining assessment standards and safeguarding against cheating represent some of the key roles and responsibilities of the institution. It is therefore unsurprising that it is in the area of assessment that many of the changes wrought by online education will be felt most keenly.
