ABSTRACT

This book has had two main threads: the implications of the Internet as an educational tool and the issues to consider when implementing an online course. As with technology and pedagogy, I believe it is impossible to dissociate these two elements. The ways in which individuals or institutions implement online learning will be profoundly affected by the views they hold about its potential, the changing educational environment, the student audience, the best use of the technology and the role of education within society. In turn, the way in which online courses are implemented helps shape these views. It is difficult for people to retain reservations or opposition in the face of success and evident student satisfaction. On the other hand, poor results will seem to readily back up many negative views.
