ABSTRACT

The interview is still the chief method of selection for teaching posts; it is unusual for schools to use some of the procedures adopted outside the profession such as psychometric tests or assessment centres, although that may well change in the future, at least for some senior appointments. The appointment of a headteacher has resulted in at least some governing bodies involving professional recruitment consultants in the process.
