ABSTRACT
The wider purpose of citizenship education, as we have seen in previous chapters, goes beyond the learning outcomes; it aims ‘at no less than a change in the political culture of this country both nationally and locally: for people to think of themselves as active citizens, willing, able and equipped to have an influence in public life’.1 This poses a challenge to the whole school in relation to its wider impact on the communities it serves.
