ABSTRACT

What is learnt in class and through the wider life of the school is directly relevant to citizenship education. It follows that the vision and values that inform the taught curriculum need to be consistent with the vision and values that underpin the wider life of the school community. It is the task of the head and those who share in the leadership of the school to ensure that this is the case. It is already clear that the schools where citizenship education is being promoted most strongly and effectively are schools with a clear and vigorous sense of the values and vision that sustain their work.
