ABSTRACT

By now all schools will have had their first inspection and for many, the joys of the second will still be embedded in their collective memory. This is the final chapter and it is likely to contain some elements of previous sections of other chapters. The reason for this is that we are all conscious of the expectations that Ofsted have. Knowing what Ofsted expect will mean that their requirements, their demands and their standards, when related to quality, will be part of everything that every primary school plans and manages. It would be a brave and probably suicidal headteacher who decided to ignore any of the guidelines that are available from Ofsted. Having said that, many of the chapters in this book have sections in them that are related in some way to some of Ofsted's criteria. Chapter 4, for example, has a long section which discusses the involvement of governors in the inspection process. It would be an equally crazy author who, at the same time as wanting to write a book which suggests and discusses good practice, totally ignored an area of expertise which, whilst feared rather than liked, has many areas of recommended good practice.
