ABSTRACT
In this chapter we distinguish between some alternative approaches to teaching that may be employed in delivering programmes via the knowledge media and identify the implications of each approach. We examine the relative merits of designing and developing courseware compared with acquiring courseware produced elsewhere and address online assessment issues. We provide a set of criteria and a checklist for selecting courseware and examine the advantages of entering into collaborative ventures in the design, development and adaptation of courseware.
