ABSTRACT

In this chapter we examine the educational and social context in which the shift to knowledge media is taking place. We identify a variety of views about the distinguishing features of the current era and suggest some implications that acceptance of these may have for educational institutions. We analyse the emerging expectation that digital media will enhance learning and accommodate the preferences and needs of the new clientele of post-school education and training. We conclude by identifying some educational policy implications with a focus on the use of knowledge media.
