ABSTRACT
A very large proportion of the world's trade is carried in tramp vessels. It is quite common to find that one cargo will fill the whole ship, and, in these circumstances, one cargo owner or one charterer will enter into a special contract with the shipowner for the hire of his ship - such a contract is known as a charter party. It is not always a full ship-load, although this is usually the case.
