ABSTRACT

One of the fundamental differences between online and stand-alone GIS is the separation of the user interface from the main data and processing, as we saw in Chapters 2 and 3. To have to refer every operation, every choice back to the server is slow. It is also frustrating for the user. Therefore any steps that are used to move interactions to the client’s machine is desirable. Many types of operations can be performed client-side. The following list is indicative, but not exhaustive.
