ABSTRACT

In the classic text, Explanation in Geography, Harvey (1969) briefly identifies one of the fundamental problems of deterministic description and analysis of geographical phenomena, the identification of the geographical individual (individuation). He states that the individual results from either properties or position of that individual. In the description and analysis of geographical phenomena and location, however, we widely use vague terms, as adjectives, nouns, and verbs, which make it hard or impossible to clearly define the geographical individual in any meaningful way which does not involve an arbitrary cut off.
