ABSTRACT

Activities of human beings usually take place in a wider organizational context. The activities of one person are related to the activities of others. Usually an organization is divided into units. An example is a post office. This office has different organizational units, for instance concerning sales, mail delivery and financial matters. Within a unit people are employed in certain jobs. Let’s consider a job at the stamp window. The employee has different tasks like selling stamps and paying cheques. To perform the task to sell stamps, different actions are needed, like handling the stamps, cashing the money and returning the change. The relation between jobs, tasks and actions is presented in Figure 5.1.
