ABSTRACT
Does the Holocaust have to remain beyond rational understanding, as is so often asserted? What we call civilisation is not proof against barbarity when a society falls into the hands of ideologically driven ruthless dictators. Difficult as it is to accept, the range of human nature includes at its extremes the perpetrators of genocide.
