ABSTRACT

Founded in 1979, Southall Black Sisters is one of the best known Black women's campaigning, advice and support organizations in Britain. 2 Always active beyond the locality of Southall, 3 it came to national prominence in the early 1990s when it campaigned for the release of Kiranjit Ahluwalia. 4

We are a local organization whose work has taken on national significance. We receive requests for help from all over the country and what we have to say is relevant to women, particularly for Asian women, throughout the country. 5
