ABSTRACT

This ware is known as “fine ware”, after the Yemen Tihāma site where the production centre was located, and it has been identified and systematically studied in the course of the Royal Ontario Museum project at Zabīd. According to Keall, this ware was introduced in the 16th century and replaced other wares such as the “slip-painted turquoise-glazed ware” (W5). He suggests that such a technological innovation in ceramic production may have been related to the introduction of coffee drinking181.
