ABSTRACT
The early appear to have rejected the idea that an arahat could fall away.81 This must be the reason why Mahādeva has changed the fifth ‘Point’. It might have seemed natural simply to transfer it to the stream-enterer, but this has not been done explicitly. Instead, other questions related to stream-entry have been taken up, which could approach the same question more obliquely.
