Joseph Linton, less than a fortnight after his arrival in Sydney in June 1950 as Israel’s first minister plenipotentiary to Australia, was asked by the Soviet Ambassador, N.M. Lifanov, what had prompted Australia to undertake its push. Linton had no answer.2
