ABSTRACT

The purpose of this essay is to identify some trade effects that the process of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in Europe might have on Israel. This intriguing question has not been the subject of many academic publications to date. Some work on the EMU’s economic consequences for Israel has been conducted by Israel’s Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Israel.1 The Israeli business sector has certainly been preoccupied by the issue, but is more interested in the EMU’s implications for business strategies and practices.
