ABSTRACT

My original purpose was to undertake a study of Anglo-Moroccan relations during the nineteenth century, starting from Moroccan documents, in order to examine the nature of these relations from within. However, I was prevented from doing this by the fact that the quantity of Moroccan Government documents available, on which I would have to base the programme outlined, was very meagre. It became clear that, despite the importance of the contents of the Royal Library in Rabat and the Bibliothèque Générale de Tétouan, these could not fulfil my needs because of a lack of consistency in categorization.
