Euro-Mediterranean relations in the twenty-first century

An assessment of regional dynamics in the Mediterranean area at the start of the twenty-first century indicates that efforts by countries in the Mediterranean to try to integrate further into the emerging international system have met with limited success. Mediterranean countries have viewed global and regional shifts since the end of the Cold War as more of a risk than an opportunity when it comes to political and economic competition.
