ABSTRACT

Between July 1941 and January 1942, submarines patrolling in the Bay of Biscay to watch for the emergence of the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau from Brest had been used six times in attempts to collect agents, passengers and mail from small Le-Guilvinec and Pont-Aven fishing boats working for Dunderdale’s ‘Johnny’ group of agents in the Lorient area. The first of these contacts, only three of which had been successful, brought Daniel Lomenech back to England in HM S/m Sealion.
