ABSTRACT

When the final plans for the invasion of Italy were maturing, Slocum, in his capacity as Deputy Director Operations Division (Irregular) (DDOD(I)), had asked the secret organisations regarding their future transport requirements. A large number of operations in the Adriatic were envisaged, to both the Italian and the Yugoslav coasts. Later on, too, they had hopes of reopening operations to the south coast of France (closed since the German invasion of the formerly Non-Occupied Zone in November 1942, following the Allied landings in French North Africa) as well.
