SECURING FREE PASSAGE OF THE WATERWAYS ON THE NIGHT OF 7/8 March 1957, the Israeli army completed its withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and Sharm el Sheikh. For the Israelis, the Suez crisis had come to an end, but there were, however, still many problems which both Israel and Britain had to overcome.
