ABSTRACT
The diplomatic efforts were important not only because of the need to maintain international support for economic pressure and military action and to prevent the imposition of an unacceptable settlement, but also to obtain material support for the Task Force and to prevent Argentina improving its position. In all of this the position of the United States was vital.
