ABSTRACT

Holders of passports issued in recent years within the UK will have noticed that the traditional black document has been replaced by a much smaller, burgundy red European Community passport. All member states now issue their passports using the same format and this is designed to assist the movement of EC nationals within the Community. As far as the public is concerned, this is probably one of the most visible symbols of our membership of the European Community.
