ABSTRACT
The word Parliament in this context is misleading since it has no direct legislative power. As seen in previous chapters, this function is vested in the Council. Until 1962 this body was called the ‘assembly’, which far more accurately described its role within the EC. However, since 1962 the name Parliament has been used and was confirmed by the Single European Act 1986.
