In a letter to Judge Proskauer, President of the American Jewish Committee, James McDonald gives a fairly representative summary of the Committee’s reaction to the Arab Middle East:
In the Arab states we were introduced, most of us for the first time, to a new world. We had excellent chances to see and to hear and thus to take in, as we would not have done otherwise, the meaning and significance of Arab nationalism.1
