ABSTRACT

Italy is the only European country with a multi-channel radio and television system much of which is not subjected to any form of state regulation. Any private person or company can set up a transmitting station, produce their own programmes or purchase them and broadcast them. The only restriction is that the broadcast must be local. The law, however, does not specify the dimensions of local broadcasting. Furthermore, a network of local companies can decide to broadcast locally at the same time the same programme with the use of previously distributed videotapes.
