ABSTRACT

I went back to Chambers, and renewed my work at the Bar. Business began slowly to come in. I ‘checked’ a good deal for Ker, and sometimes earned money thereby. I tried my hand still at literature, and got a bit of verse ‘Fairies and Railroads’ inserted in Honest Tait (January 1846). But as I received no pay for it, I did not trouble myself to go further in the poetical line for publication, beyond some scraps published after 1848…
