Inflation in Turkey: Inflation and Income Redistribution, 1939–58

Lacking a nation-wide cost-of-living index, we have averaged those for Istanbul and Ankara, the two main industrial centres, to obtain a cost-of-living index which relates to families whose income falls between working class and civil servant levels.1 This shows (Table 6:1) the nineteen years of the period to have been predominantly inflationary.
