ABSTRACT
Whenever the guard took to the field with the emperor, a force of remansores remained in Rome to look after the forts and the horsemen’s families and to keep up the supply and training of horses. Indeed, the forts still belonged to the equites singulares in 312 when Constantine razed them. A dedication to Minerva set up by the curatores was still then in place, hence the building had been used by no one else, although the troopers came in full strength to Rome for the last time with Diocletian in 285 and in 303.
