ABSTRACT

In Chapter 9, we have discussed the management of school-based curriculum change. Obviously, curriculum change is only one part of school change that helps the school to adapt to the changing environment and meet the changing educational needs. There may be two types of school change: externally imposed school change and school-based change. The former refers to the change that is initiated and imposed by an external agent on the school and the latter refers to the change that is initiated and implemented mainly by school members. Since the concept of school-based management is emphasized in this book, internal school-based change will be the focus of discussion. In this chapter, we will discuss the nature, management and effectiveness of school-based change, particularly on the organizational aspects in the light of the dynamic perspective of school effectiveness and the concepts of school-based management mechanism.
