ABSTRACT
In October 1979, James Lund, Marine Vice-President of Triton Oil Company, was preparing to contract for construction of the largest vessel in the company’s fleet. For two years he had directed studies which included analyses of supply and demand considerations, present and future port facilities, historical weather conditions by trade route, power plant design, and a variety of significantly different vessel concepts. The final decision on vessel type and parameters would be made shortly.
