Overqualified and underpaid

In this chapter I want to explore the implications of the fact that the women actively chose to work in the personal services industry and rejected factory work. I argue in this chapter that their experience of wage work in this sector has to be understood against the backdrop of their expected labour contribution if they had remained in the village.
