ABSTRACT

In the autumn of 1988, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was to celebrate its fortieth anniversary, and dignitaries from all over the world were invited to take part in the festivities. The Swedish parliamentary elections at the same time gave all the Swedish politicians a natural (and presumably welcome) reason to decline. Somebody then got the bright idea of entrusting me – who had been the first man there – with the task of representing Sweden as ‘Ambassadeur en mission spéciale’.
