ABSTRACT
In order to understand ibn Ezra’s attack on Christianity in Path Three, as well as his attitude to allegory as a whole, it is essential to analyse the development of Christian exegesis from its earliest beginnings up to ibn Ezra’s time. Although most of the following ideas were mediated only indirectly to ibn Ezra, they are, nevertheless, relevant to his hermeneutic work.
