ABSTRACT
Even over the years spanned by the research for this book, every sphere of Chinese life has undergone tremendous change. Political order and its revolutions is one constituting influence. Territorial cults with their imagery of imperial courts make up another. There has also been radical economic transformation. It is time, therefore, to say something at last about those changes. What has happened to territorial cults in the midst of these changes? How have they themselves changed?
